Save vs Splurge

Holiday shopping is fun but not when you have a limited budget. With a good round of sales here and there, it is too tempting not to give in. But is it REALLY worth splurging on every item you see? Before you decide to jump into buying an item you have an eye for, try looking around for cheaper alternatives. While I do think that designer pieces are also worth investing in for quality, if you need trendy pieces to add to your closet, it is completely OKAY to go on the 'save' route. Let me emphasize that there is nothing wrong with being a cheapskate at all. However, there are some pieces that I would like to get more wear of and therefore opt for the higher end versions. Meanwhile, there are some trendy items that I always put a budget limit on.

Below are some of the pieces I've scoured online with cheaper and higher end options, depending on your budget range:

Black Tassel PU Leather Boots / Oscar de la Renta Jeraline Booties
Red High Heel Pumps / Sergio Rossi Godiva Pumps
Manchester Plaid Scarf / Kate Spade Woodland Plaid Scarf
Leopard Fur Pony Clutch from Lulu's / Clare V Leopard Fold Over Clutch
Black PU Leather Bucket Bag / Michael Kors Miranda Bucket Bag

When it comes to buying cheap items versus more expensive designer items, the debate between quality vs cost always comes up. It is up to you to decide which of these two you prefer. What kind of shopper are you?

  1. So many amazing steals! Love that bucket bag!

    Upbeat Soles

  2. I'm definitely a saver - I feel like I'm really good at finding quality things for a good price! You're right though. Quality is really important. What's the point of buying something for cheap and having it fall apart? Those Oscar de la Renta shoes though! I swoon over his stuff a lot but then I see the price tag and I'm like forgetaboutit. ;)

  3. I am definitely a saver and I loved how you showed both pieces to compare! Such a great post and I hope you had a day as wonderful as you!

    xx Julianna

  4. I'd splurge on those red shoes and the Kate Spade scarf. Everything else...I'll take the saves :)

  5. Great picks! I'm loving these saving options!

  6. I actually like the cheaper red pair better! They are so cute

  7. I agree, I think it's all about finding a balance of what to splurge on and what to save on :)

  8. I agree and like to save on trendier pieces. I'm loving both the save bucket bag and leopard clutch!

  9. I love these kinds of posts! I agree, I like to invest in designer pieces when needed because the quality is always better, plus they don't lose a lot of value, if and when you want to sell them to make more room in your closet :) For trendier pieces, I never splurge because I don't find it necessary to invest in something that will be stale next season.

Such a great post, girlie; thanks so much for sharing!

  10. Great options!

  11. As much as I like designers items, I am A mom of 3. I tend ro go for princes that are trendy yet fits my personality and budget!

  12. Love these kinds of posts - perfect for a frugal shopper like myself :) These are some really awesome dupes! Thanks for sharing!

  13. I'll say defo splurge on the bag and shoes, but that's because those are the only ones I'd splurge on, haha

  17. You did such a great job putting this post together! I love the bucket bag, you really can't tell the difference between the save or splurge item.

  18. Love this post and couldn't agree with you more! Although I think I'm a bit of both depending on what the item is. Sometimes I like to splurge because I get a lot more use out of the item. This usually applies to bags and coats especially. I've actually been eyeing that leopard clutch from Lulus for a few weeks now and I told my boyfriend I wanted it for xmas since the Claire V one is pretty expensive, it sold out!! I was so disappointed because I've been trying to find the perfect leopard clutch forever without breaking the bank!

Hi, thank you for leaving a comment. I always enjoy reading comments and they make my day. So, go ahead and make mine! :)
