Oh Crop!

When I pulled out this criss-cross top off the package from Dresslink, I had to admit I was slightly letdown. It had nothing to do with the fabric or quality. It was the fact that the crop was a little higher than what I would dare to wear. I had to reflect to myself: "Can I pull this off? Do I have the body to wear this top?" I was about to tuck it somewhere in my closet where I would not even dare touch it. But when I had time to reflect some more, I realized that I should empower my body, not shame it.

Top: Dresslink (c/o) / Jeans: Jag Jeans / Sunnies: Rayban / Shoes: Payless (similar)

I am not saying that body confidence and female empowerment is synonymous to flaunting your body. Rather, you should proudly showcase what you have and what you striven hard to achieve. If you are comfortable doing it and it makes you proud, go for it! I've been constantly pushing myself to workout regularly and stay fit. I am nowhere near my ideal body but every day I work my butt off, I am one step closer to getting there.

I read one blog a few weeks ago that also touched on this topic. I find it hard to fathom how someone with such high level of success (blogging wise) and a beautiful face and body would be ridiculed for the way she looks or wear her clothes. I guess what I am trying to say is that no matter how good you are and what level of success you have attained, there will always be people who would say something negative about or towards you. Don't let them get to you.

What are your thoughts on body shaming?

  3. I think you rock the crop! Body shaming is an issue I definitely feel passionate about; it's ridonkulous and senseless, and needs to be stopped. Go you for feeling great in your own bod!

  12. Abby, you look great in that top! Glad you decided to wear it because it does look good on you. Us women can be very hard on ourselves and the media doesn't help at all. We do have to take the time to reflect, as you did, and empower ourselves because if we don't do it, no one else will. We have to know our worth and not rely on others to tell us because a lot of people can be mean, as you mentioned with that blogger. I always say that when someone puts you down, it's only a reflection of how they feel about themselves.

I hope you're having an amazing day, beauty!

  16. Girl if I had your body and skin, I'd be showing it off more often! You looks amazing in this top. But if you want to go modest, I bet you can style it with layers. Like over a black tube dress. Or with a wide strapped black dress. Now that I think about it, I'd love to see you style this in other ways too. Great with jeans of course! You look hottt ;)

  18. Great post Abby! I think those of us who put themselves out there on the internet allows us the chance to be ridiculed and judged in any way. I'm lucky enough to say I've never received a negative comment but I'm sure larger blogs have to deal with that. People who leave negative comments are usually hurting themselves. I have a Dresslink order coming soon too--I hope the pieces work out!

  22. You look great in this top. I don't think I could pull this off, but you look great in this piece. It would also work great with a high waisted skirt. A midi skirt would be great with this piece. Thanks for sharing.

  25. I am not okay with body shaming and I avoid it when people are taking part negative comments about other people's bodies. Most people who do this are really not happy with themselves and need help.
Congrats on your workouts! I'm trying myself.
