Celebrity Fash: Weekly Fave & Fail

Favorite Look of the Week

This week gave us some really fabulous appearances from stars like Blake Lively on the set of Gossip Girls and Miranda Kerr attending the David Jones Amex Press Conference. However, these two ladies had to take the runner up trophy for now as Kate Hudson took the top spot for me. Kate attended the 2012 Venice Film Festival together with fiancé Matthew Bellamy and co-stars for “The Reluctant Fundamentalist” wherein she took the crowd’s breath away in this stunner. Kate is wearing a shimmering nude Atelier Versace creation that is taken from the designer house’s Fall 2012 collection. An Edie Parker clutch, champagne-colored heels, and a classy updo completed her stunning ensemble. Now, I give you the chance to marvel at this beauty.

Fashion Faux Pax of the Week

This week wasn’t too stylish for Rihanna’s end, though. The “Where Have You Been” songstress was spotted out and about in London wearing a getup that I couldn’t quite make out exactly what she’s aiming for. I can’t get my grips on which is the worst part of her look – the black sheer dress, the green leather jacket, the over-the-top statement necklace, the hat, or the shoes? Apparently, there is too much going on in this pic that it's just painful to look at.

And as if that wasn’t enough, she wore another unsightly ensemble while still in London. This time out, she wore ripped denim shorts, and Kenzo shirt and hat. These different pieces might be fine individually, just not together. Rihanna might be trying to do a throwback to the vintage street style, but it isn’t working here, honey. Sorry.

Tuesday Ten: Style Inspirations from Lauren Conrad

It’s no secret that I adore Lauren Conrad’s style and fashion sensibilities. Hers is the only celebrity fashion that I think I can actually wear on the street, which makes trying to copy her different looks and styles even more fun.

For the past few years, I look to her for trends that I can use. If you would like to look as chic and fashionable as she is, here are some of the common style elements that have become associated with Lauren that I love.

1. Cat Eye

If there is anything I suck at, it would be putting on eye makeup. But the perfect winged eyeliner worn by Lauren all the time is a great way to wear simple makeup and still stand out. It’s a great way to draw more attention to the eyes, too.

2. Braids

Straight and curly tips are all too common hairstyles. If you really want to spice up your look, why not vary up your braids? Lauren seem to perfect this kind of hairstyle, which brings forth a look that is a cross between a Grecian goddess and boho chic. This is the perfect hairstyle when you’re wearing a sundress.

3. Wavy ‘Do

One reason why I always keep my hair long is that I want to curl it up from time to time. I love that long hair provides lots of opportunities to style it, and as per Lauren’s cue, why not wave it up?

4. Jackets/Cardigans

Layering your outfit is a tricky thing to pull off, but LC does it effortlessly chic! I had been meaning to purchase blazers to add into my current collection of cardigans to help incorporate various layers into my outfit. Look at how she makes it look oh-so-feminine!

5. Classic Pumps

When it comes to shoes, I might experiment from time to time but I always have basic pieces that I can pair with whatever. This is a style trick I learned and adapted from Lauren. After all, classic is still the way to go!

6. Belts

Like me, Lauren loves to wear dresses. And so cinching the waist with a belt is a fantastic way to bring more shape by highlighting the waist. But it’s not just for dresses though, this trick is perfect for oversized tops and other loose fabrics.

7. Shorts

Only Lauren can probably make shorts fit for the red carpet. With classic style details such as rolled up long sleeves or an 80’s wavy do, I love how she plays up with different styles of shorts to make them look elegant and sophisticated.

8. Skinny Jeans

No one rocks skinny pants on the street better than Lauren does. And I totally adore this kind of style statement. Pairing skinnies with a loose top and platform heels could not look any more stylish.

9. Get Dressy

Which girl doesn’t love a dress? I, personally, am obsessed with all kinds of dresses, especially short and floral ones (yes, you can check my closet for proof!). I love the fact that they’re comfortable to wear and ultra-feminine. It’s also one more excuse to show off your gams (ha!).

10. Oversized Tote Bags

This is the final element in a cute yet chic street style. If you’ve seen paparazzi photos of LC, then you might’ve noticed one fashion piece that is always there – a tote bag. Personally, I’m more into large tote bags for function than form. But if it looks fashionable too, then that’s a bonus! It is no doubt a closet must-have!

Fash Love: Gladiator Heels & Glittery Pumps

I’m in a shoe shopping craze lately and had been particularly stocking up my closet with heels and pumps. Of my recent purchases, I am obsessed with a couple of them: my new glitter nude pump and gladiator heels.

I wore the glitter nude pumps during my friend’s wedding in June, which I paired with a cute mustard dress (will be blogging about this ensemble soon!). I love the glitter detailing on the shoe because it brings forth a sense of elegance and sophistication, which makes it ideal to wear with an LBD, LWD, or any cocktail dress for an evening soiree.

Meanwhile, I am loving this gladiator heels that I got because, well, it’s chic and stylish. Plus, it’s comfortable to wear, too. I like pairing this with leggings or a casual dress. Nice way to incorporate some attitude into what would have been a basic look!

Which is your favorite of the two? Be sure to share your thoughts about your recent shoe obsession in the comments below.

Celebrity Fash: Weekly Fave and Fail

Favorite Look of the Week

I can’t decide so I had to pick two. First off is one of my favorite Hollywood beauties– Kate Beckinsale. In the UK premiere of her new film “Total Recall”, Kate stepped out looking flawless once again (was there ever a time she looked any less?) wearing a Donna Karan sequined gown that screams elegance. She also paired her dress with Salvatore Ferragamo pumps for added dose of fash. Truly a gush-worthy ensemble right here that puts any woman half her age to shame.

And speaking of another red carpet beauty, check out this look from Sofia Vergara. The Modern Family star has been a recent fave in the red carpet for her glamorous style and undeniable sex appeal. No other words are needed to describe how gorgeous she looks. Ogle on the photo below. Now, I’m sure most of us could only dream of looking like this in our 40’s.

Fashion Faux Pas of the Week

Meanwhile, on the other end of the spectrum, there is Lindsay Lohan. Lindsay. What else is there to say about her besides that she has had a pretty animated career? She’s also been in and out of the rehab due to her drinking addiction, but it seems as though her fashion sense is also in serious need of undergoing rehab.

Look at her photo – she looks tacky and gaudy. Who steps out of their house looking like this garb? And what is it with the pantless trend in Hollywood that I don’t get? Seriously, if you can’t go out looking stylish, at least don’t get photographed without your pants on. Period.

Birthday Ensemble

Yesterday, I went to church with my sister and her kids to light some candles and say a birthday wish for her. After church we went right across to Abreeza to have lunch together with the kiddos. We also did some last-minute errands for her birthday dinner at home later in the day. It was a simple celebration shared by the entire family.

After lighting some candles though, my sister started snapping some photos of the kids and my ensemble. I took advantage of the opportunity to showcase how I styled my recent fash find.

Top: For Me / Shorts: Invogue / Earrings: Love Diva / Bag: Thrifted from Boracay D'Mall

I opted to wear a casual outfit because it was a hot day out. I also donned my new leaf drop earrings from Love Diva that I just recently bought over the weekend. Of course, the dramatic earrings demanded a bun (it was just coincidental with the warm weather!).

I kept my entire ensemble minimalistic and casual, although the earrings helped to spice up the look. I didn’t add any more accessories to my outfit lest I’m going to overdo it. The earrings were enough to tie all of the different elements of this look together. And I like that the color of my earrings complimented that of my shorts (my fave!) though I did not realize it then.

Check out our photo booth pics collage at Abreeza – clearly, the kids enjoyed it so much!  Happy birthday to my sister!

Fash Find: Leaf Drop Earrings from Love Diva

Over the past few months, I had been obsessing over fashion and colorful earrings. The more colorful and bold the design, the better. I have amassed more earrings over the past half year than I ever had my entire life (no kidding!) - that's how obsessed I am, really. I just can't help it. I like mixing and matching earrings and other accessories with my ensemble and I think it makes dressing up more fun!

Here is another one that I've added into my growing collection. Love Diva's Enamel Leaf Drop Earrings is a great combination of chic and classy while adding a pop of color into any outfit. Hence, I opted for it on my latest visit at their Gaisano Mall of Davao store.
This is quite a bargain (a.k.a. steal!) knowing it's priced at P200. It is very easy to wear and yet screams style when you pair it with the right ensemble. I see it would make a great compliment to a pastel or color-blocking outfit. I am already excited to use it and see how it would spice up the look.

How about you? What's your newest fashion find? Be sure to share it in the comments below. As for now, I am planning to check out Love Diva again to see other fabulous finds.
