Skin Care Must-Haves for Summer

When it comes to skin care, I tend to double my efforts in the summer. In between the heat, salt water from swimming in the ocean or chlorine in the pool, and the fact that you will probably spend more time under the sun than you would any other season, all of these things can combine to cause a lot of damage to your skin. Since many of the damages to the skin are irreversible, it only pays to take a more cautious approach and protect your skin before damage happens. I also need to improve on adapting my own tips as I tend to slack off on my skin care routine in the summer. In order to revamp my skin care regimen, I've selected quite a few of the products that I will be sure to stock up on so I can frolic under the sun without worries:

Sunscreen

Mineral Sunscreen Glow / Sunscreen SPF 50 / UV Plus Anti-Pollution Broad Spectrum SPF 50

When in the subject of skin care for summer, it is a sin to not include sunscreen in the list. The sunscreen serves as a protective layer for your skin by blocking the harmful UV rays from the sun. Therefore, the reason for using sunscreen goes far beyond cosmetic reasons. It can be the key to preventing skin cancer, of which prolonged exposure to the sun's UV rays can cause!

Body Scrub

C Lab  Co Scrub Travel Pack / The Debauchery Detox Scrub / Coffee Body Scrub

If there is one product from this list that I can't live without, it would be a body scrub. I love the exfoliating effect of the body scrub to my skin. It is effective in removing dead skin cells so your skin will feel smooth and supple all the time. It is also a good product to use to combat cellulite formation as massaging it onto your skin can help to stimulate blood flow. Choose an oil-based body scrub to provide a hydrating effect on your skin. My favorite ingredients for a body scrub include coconut oil, shea butter and olive oil.

Infused Bath

Bath Treatment Sachet Pack / Bath & Shower Concentrate with Plant Extracts / Gem & Honey Infused Bath Salt

An infused bath can provide the same benefits as body scrub although this one is designed more to make you relaxed and calm. The ingredients used to infuse the bath mixture can vary and it will also impact the benefit you can get. Some infused bath salts are nourishing and hydrating while others target specific skin conditions.

Face Mask

Exfoliating Mask / Super Restorative Replenishing Mask / Extra-Firming Mask

A facial mask is another skin care treatment that I am currently addicted to. If you haven't tried it yet, you are missing out! What makes facial mask good for your skin, especially during summer? It provides instant hydration to your skin and depending on the type of ingredient can offer a wide range of benefits. Most facial masks are designed to nourish your skin and fight signs of dullness by giving it a healthy glow. It also improves the appearance of your pores so your skin will look younger the more you use it.

Face Mist

Run for the Roses After Sun Mist / Refresh Face Mist

Due to the heat of the summer, staying hydrated is important. Drinking plenty of water is good for your health and skin. But with the high temperature, it can be easy to fall into the dehydration state. A facial mist is therefore important in your skin care arsenal for this reason. It is important to spritz some to your face every few hours. This will easily hydrate your skin while nourishing it at the same time.

Facial Cleansers

Soothing & Nourishing Facial Cleanser / Gentle Cleansing Exfoliant / Gentle Foaming Cleanser with Tamarind

A facial cleanser is a must for summer because your skin can be exposed to harsh elements. From the sun's UV rays to dust, dirt and sweat, all of these can clog up your pores and cause your skin to look dull and damaged. A gentle but effective cleanser is an important part of my skin care routine and should be in yours too. But it is important to put emphasis on choosing a gentle formula - you want to remove build up and clean your pores but make sure it is not too harsh on your skin.

Which of these skin care products for summer can you not live without?

Cutest Nail Art Ideas for Summer

I do believe that there is no better season than summer to experiment with nail colors and nail arts. It is also that time of the year when your manicure and pedicure are an integral part of your style. After all, you will be wearing sandals and open-toe footwear a lot. Make sure your nails are ready to show themselves off in fun, bright and creative nail art ideas! If Instagram and Pinterest were any proof, then you know great nails is an integral part of your style!

If you would like to skip the constant trip to the nail salon (and hence save your budget!), I'm happy to share this fun new website that I've discovered that lets you easily create your own nail art at home: NailSnaps. No more dealing with the expense of a custom nail art because this product was designed with that purpose in mind. The fun part that is you can explore existing nail art collections from the website or make your own.

Below are just some of my favorites that I would love to wear this summer:

What is your thought on nail arts? Is nail art an essential part of your summer style too?

My MAC Lip Collection + Wishlist

I have a confession to make: I'm a lipstick addict (in case you didn't notice). My fascination for red lipstick, in particular, has prompted me to buy every possible shade of red lipstick you could find. My quest for the perfect red lip color has led me to grow my MAC lipstick collection over time. Since I tried Ruby Woo and Russian Red, I haven't looked back. It is important for me to be picky about what I wear on my lips; I would never use lipstick from unknown brands whenever possible. Chapped lips had always been an issue of mine and I find that certain brands of lipsticks make my lips extremely dry. Thankfully for those who have problems with chapped, dry lips, you can try evolution of smooth lip balms. I am never without a lip balm for those days wherein I do not want to wear lipstick, or when I'm at home. It helps to seal in the moisture and keep my puckers smooth!

Going back to my lipstick collection, I've amassed quite a few but I've listed some of the ones that I use all the time.

MAC Craving

MAC Please Me

...but I'm not done yet. There are many other gorgeous shades that I would like to get my hands on soon. These are just some of them:
MAC Hearts Aflame

MAC Hearts Aflame is from the A Novel Romance collection. I was instantly drawn to this lipstick shade because of its dark red tone. I love a good red lipstick and while I do own Russian Red and Ruby Woo from MAC, this looks like another great addition to my red lipstick collection. It is a mid-tone brick red with a matte finish!
MAC Yield to Love

This mid-tone rose lipstick is one of my most coveted lipsticks from MAC. Since I tried wearing MAC Please Me, I have fallen in love with pink lipsticks. This one is unique in its combination of pink and plum shades. It has a soft shine, too, which makes it easy to apply.
MAC A Novel Romance

This is another limited edition lipstick from MAC. I instantly yielded to the dusty pink lipstick color and its cremesheen finish. The blue undertone and soft shine makes it irresistible and ideal for creating feminine looks.

MAC Painted Sunset
Orange-based hues is also one of my favorite colors to wear on my lips. Hence, Painted Sunset piqued my curiosity enough to include it in my wishlist. If you like to make a bold statement on your lips, this is the color to go to!

MAC Runway Hit
This warm coral matte lipstick rounds up my list of coveted MAC lipsticks at the moment. I've seen swatches of this lipstick on Google and I have to say that I am quite impressed.

Which MAC lipstick is your all-time favorite?

Beauty Products I'm Curious to Try

It might be embarrassing to admit it, but I don't know how to do my own makeup. I guess it's laziness but I just don't have the patience to spend more than an hour doing my own makeup. On most days, it takes me no more than 15 minutes to put on makeup. I often stick to the basics such as primer, foundation, lipstick, blush and minimal eye makeup. I mean - shouldn't we all?

Despite my lack of ability, that does not stop my love for collecting beauty products. In fact, I have a bunch of must-try items that I've been curious to try. My favorite brands for lipstick have been MAC, L'Oreal and Maybelline. For foundation, it's Revlon and MAX Factor. For blush, it's been Butter London. And for eye makeup, I've tried mostly Maybelline products. These brands are my go-to when I need to replenish my makeup stash. But I am also open to new ideas to try out some other brands and/or products especially if it meant getting them at more reasonable prices.

Tarte Cosmetics Water Foundation SPF 15

I love a good lightweight foundation that offers full coverage. And that is exactly what the Water Foundation SPF 15 promises to bring. The Max Factor Liquid Illusion Foundation is still my favorite and go-to foundation to this day. But this one has got me curious enough to try. It is also available in a wide range of shades so it is suitable for all skin types and tones. Check it for yourself:

Tarte Cosmetics Confidence Creamy Powder Foundation

As an alternative to liquid foundation, I also try to keep a powder foundation in my makeup stash. This is a 2-in-1 product that acts as a full coverage powder foundation that is highly blendable, but also offers skin care and anti-aging benefits. It also promises to never flake or cause your skin to dry - bonus!

Skin Twinkle Lighting Palette

Made from natural ingredients, this vegan highlighting palette is great for strobing. I'd love to try it to give that natural glow to my skin. Anyone tried this yet?

Herbivore Coco Rose Lip Conditioner

I have this problem with chapped lips so I always look for moisturizing lip products such as lip balms. But this is my first time to try a lip conditioner. It is also made with Moroccan rose oil so it is lightweight and nourishing.

NYX Audrey Matte Lipstick

I've been wanting to try NYX products for a while now but couldn't get myself to. When I found this lipstick at Lulu's though, the shade caught my eye. And being a matte lipstick, I got even more curious. If you have any review, I'd love to check it out particularly this gorgeous shade!

So Fine Micro Liner

Gone are the days when I'm scared to wear eye liner - I've been experimenting with its use lately. And I love and enjoy the process. Currently, I am using Maybelline Crayon Liner but I've been told to try a gel liner. Hence, I have this in my wishlist!

Sigma Beauty Midsummer Bronze Loose Shimmer

A hint of bronze hue is my favorite way to accent any makeup look lately. Hence, this loose shimmer powder caught my eye instantly. I love that it can be used to provide a subtle shimmer to the face and cheeks. Plus, it's paraben-free!

Which of these beauty products should I give a try?
