I wouldn't call my style preppy but it's fun to try out new styles and looks from time to time. Case in point: this outfit I have for you today. But what exactly is preppy style? It is the focus on casual and simple but polished outfit using just a few key accessories. The use of classic pieces make it such an enduring style since there are several possibilities to create your desired outfit and it will never go out of style.

In this case, the classic striped shift dress is the base of the look. Pairing it with a classic chambray top provides endless possibilities for styling: 1) wrapping it around the waist to provide a cinching effect, or 2) wear it over the dress for light layering effect. A classic black tote is also a great way to compliment this preppy style. A basic black tote can go with any outfit, but works beautifully with a preppy look with some nautical freshness to it!

The best thing about preppy style is that there is a certain sophistication with the look. And yet, it is easy to put together. As long as you basic and classic pieces in your wardrobe, it is easy to build up a preppy look from there. In general, try to avoid incorporating pieces that are too flashy or too sexy. The pieces you wear should be moderate length and clean-cut at all times.

Retro + Kate Spade

Even though I was born in the 80's, I have always been intrigued by retro style. The flashing and vibrant colors, the obnoxious patterns, and all that jazz screams fun in all the right ways! Hence, I was inspired to opt for a retro look with a modern spin in today's look!

If you can remember this neon dress, I've already styled it here. Today, I added a fun mix of accessories to transform a simple neon dress into a retro chic outfit. This grey cardigan from Lixmee is a new addition in my closet. I got it specifically for the fact that I needed a new cardigan that can be easily mixed and matched with other pieces in my closet. Meanwhile, the Mini Harmony Tote from Kate Spade has been on my wishlist for such a long time. It took me a while to contemplate whether it was worth splurging on. But I bought it around Christmas time so I considered this purchase a gift for myself. 

For some more retro touch, I added the pink sunglasses and gladiator sandals from AMI Clubwear into the  mix!

Oh, Mustard!

I'd like to think I wear mustard well. If you don't agree, then that is not going to stop me from wearing this color either. It is such a classic piece of color that can work with any other color or pieces, while also providing a pop of color to liven up what would normally be taken as a boring or basic outfit.

This new mustard cardigan that I have has been serving a lot of use for me. I've worn it with a dress, with a tank top, or to provide layer for my outfit when it's slightly chilly outside and a jacket would have been too warm for my liking. This casual, cozy outfit is so comfortable too I could wear it everyday!
