I wouldn't call my style preppy but it's fun to try out new styles and looks from time to time. Case in point: this outfit I have for you today. But what exactly is preppy style? It is the focus on casual and simple but polished outfit using just a few key accessories. The use of classic pieces make it such an enduring style since there are several possibilities to create your desired outfit and it will never go out of style.

In this case, the classic striped shift dress is the base of the look. Pairing it with a classic chambray top provides endless possibilities for styling: 1) wrapping it around the waist to provide a cinching effect, or 2) wear it over the dress for light layering effect. A classic black tote is also a great way to compliment this preppy style. A basic black tote can go with any outfit, but works beautifully with a preppy look with some nautical freshness to it!

The best thing about preppy style is that there is a certain sophistication with the look. And yet, it is easy to put together. As long as you basic and classic pieces in your wardrobe, it is easy to build up a preppy look from there. In general, try to avoid incorporating pieces that are too flashy or too sexy. The pieces you wear should be moderate length and clean-cut at all times.

I Woke Up Like This

Statement tees are my fave at the moment. For the longest time, I've tried avoiding the use of tees because there just wasn't much style appeal to them. I was dead wrong. The advent of statement tees like this one quickly reinvigorated my interest (and I'm sure it did for others too) to start wearing tees again! One item that is quite trendy at the moment is this "I Woke Up Like This" shirt. I also added two pieces from Zaful to dress up this simple grey tee: this printed long pencil skirt and coin pendant necklace.

And let me tell you a little bit about this skirt too.  The fabric is comfortable, the fit was great and it has a slit! I don't know what it is about long skirts and dresses with slits, but it's almost guaranteed that I'd buy it when I see one. And I've been looking for a printed maxi skirt, too, so it was a bonus when I found this one from Zaful.

B&W Chic

Houndstooth is, and will always be, one of my favorite patterns to wear. Ever. I love the simple sophistication that the pattern brings to an outfit. Hence, this pencil skirt that I am showcasing on the blog today is an all-time favorite simply because it requires little to no styling. In fact, I love this look that I have for you here because it speaks about the kind of style that I always strive for - simple elegance. 

I bought this black ballerina top from HerBench and decided to pair it with the skirt for a B&W look. A pair of statement earrings helped to break the monotony in the color. Meanwhile, the neutral heels added a touch of glam to the outfit.

Of Lace and Pink + Linkup

You might scoff at me for my repeated insistence on loving lace but what's a girl to do? I LOVE lace! Hence, it was not surprising to me that I picked not one but two lace skirts from ThredUP as part of our collaboration. This lace pencil skirt is one of them. You can see me style the other lace skirt here.

I decided to go all-out with the feminine detail of the look by pairing the lace skirt with my pink sheer top. A hint of mint from my necklace helped to break up the color monotony. And for the final touch of glam, my sleek ponytail came to the rescue. 

If you noticed, I was all smiles that day - the weather was cooperating with us. In fact, the wind kept blowing my way and I think it helped out to create some beautiful shots. Here's to hoping for another fun and successful shoot outdoors!
