Off Shoulder with an Edge

OUTFIT DETAILS
Top (also in light blue) / Pants / Bag (c/o) / Boots Watch (c/o)

Off shoulder was one of the top trends to emerge last year. Clearly, it is still one of the biggest trends at the moment. I've featured one off shoulder piece in this blog here but I am not one to over-indulge in these trendy items for practical reasons. But this top that I am showcasing today I just could not resist.

One of the things that I love as equally as off-shoulder pieces are those with scalloped details. The scallop trend adds a hint of cuteness but with an edge to any outfit. Even the most subtle details can truly make any piece stand out, which is the case on the hem of this off shoulder top. For more edginess, I decided to pair this top with my ripped denim jeans from Shein and my ankle boots.

What other styling tips do you rely on to add an edgy finish to an off shoulder piece?

How to Make a Denim Jumpsuit Look Feminine

OUTFIT DETAILS

It took me a while to hop on the denim overall bandwagon and now I am giving another trend a try: denim jumpsuit. I've never worn a jumpsuit before so this is unchartered territory for me. But thanks to Pinterest, I've come up with feminine ideas to style a denim jumpsuit and I am putting my own spin to it.

The off-shoulder trend has been one of my favorite trends this season. I love all things off-shoulder - tops, dresses, you name it! It provides a feminine silhouette to your look, which is why I thought about incorporating this floral top (of which I've styled here) to this look. The edginess of the denim and the feminine details of the floral print and off-shoulder detail makes a good contrast. Since I am vaguely new to styling a denim jumpsuit (or overalls, for that matter), I can at least find solace in the fact that the floral print gives me some sense of familiarity. Plus, any way I can add a feminine touch to a look is always an idea I am going to pursue!

Ruffles and Rips

Top: Shein
Pants: Shein
Bag: Twinkledeals (c/o)
Earrings: Happiness Boutique (c/o)
Watch: JORD (c/o)

Let me tell you a story about this pair of pants... I have been wanting to buy myself a pair of ripped jeans. But aside from the fact that I couldn't find one I like, my husband was all against it. Hear me out here because I do think he makes some sense, at least for now in our fashion arguments. He thinks it's a stupid idea to buy a pair of jeans at brand new prices that look like they've been damaged or destroyed. Fashion is crazy like that. But I can't tell you how much I love this pair.

Even though my husband would probably laugh at me every time I put this on, I am loving this pair. I love that the ripped detail is more subtly done than others wherein you can literally rip the pants in half by the leg. I decided to pair it with my ankle strap heels to provide a delicate touch to the outfit to provide contrast to the edgy ripped jeans. Since I am strutting a black and white combo (and some nude from the heels), I was aching for color in this outfit. Hence, I tossed in my new saddle bag from Twinkledeals and turquoise earrings from Happiness Boutique.

I think this is the first time in a while that I am loving so many components in one outfit that does not involve a dress. (gives self a pat in the back) What is your thought on ripped jeans?

Keep it Short

When I am not in the mood to wear a dress, I usually reach out for shorts to wear when I am out and about. I love that there are more options for shorts available these days apart from the traditional denim shorts. In fact, some short styles are dressier and can therefore be worn with a more dressed up outfit paired with sandals or heels. Whatever your style is, it's hard to deny how comfortable shorts are.

If you want to be inspired or simply want to try out something different than your usual short styles, I've curated some of my top shorts looks from the past:

Plaid Midi + Lace-Up Espadrilles

In the summer time, I like to keep my style easy and laid back. It starts with choosing pieces that are made of lightweight materials like this flowy plaid midi dress from BB Dakota. I have wanted a shirt dress for so long but I could not find the style that I want. This button front midi dress is the next best thing to a shirt dress. Even though I am a maxi lover at the core, I have gotten to appreciate midi dresses as of late. They are proving to be as versatile as maxi dresses are in terms of being able to dress them up or down. I got the dress in small but it appears longer to me as I am petite.

Lace-Up Espadrilles: Soludos
Watch: JORD (c/o)

To complete my casual summer look, I need an equally comfortable pair of shoes. And what better type of shoe to wear than espadrilles? I've been seriously lusting over all kinds of espadrilles this season - espadrille flats, lace-up espadrilles, wedges espadrilles, and so on. This pair from Soludos (and it's only $55) was the ultimate choice because it is versatile enough to be paired with a few other summer pieces in my closet. It's a must-have if you are looking for a new pair!

What would you consider is your summer essential?
