Transitional Style: Red Flare Dress

While I do love summer and warm weather, the idea of the -ber months bring a new level of excitement. In the Philippines, we are anticipating the Christmas season as early as September. Last year, I incessantly (yes I am aware of that) talked about how excited I am about spending our first holiday season at our new home. This year, I still feel that same level of excitement. But I also have a December trip coming up to a tropical island. So while my mind is set on getting ready for the colder months ahead, I can't just shake off the idea of buying summer dresses just yet. The perfect compromise to that is to buy transitional dresses that can be easily styled depending on the weather. A red flare dress fits that bill for me.

I've always loved to wear bright colors for summer; hence, red is a no-brainer for me. But at the same time, red has a sense of warmth to it, which also makes it an ideal choice for the colder months. By opting for fit and flare dresses that are easy to dress up or down, you can have a piece that can be styled for different seasons.

With the picks above, you can easily transition them by changing the shoe options and adding layers. For example, you can wear these dresses with wedge sandals or strappy sandals for the warm weather. If it's cold, you can layer with a jacket or cardigan, and then toss in some ankle booties into the mix!

What is your go-to style for transitional dresses?

Red and Pink With Zaful

Dress: Zaful (c/o)
Earrings: Adia Kibur
Watch: JORD (c/o)
Shoes: Mendrez (similar)

Have I told you how much I love red dresses? If you've been here before, chances are I have. When I found this dress at Zaful, it was love at first sight. I've been let down by Zaful a few times in the past but the items that I got from the website that I love, well I really loved! And this red off-shoulder flutter sleeve dress rightfully belongs to the second category.

Aside from the bold pop of color, what I love most about red dresses is that they tend to stand alone. I wanted to soften the look a little bit with my pair of light pink pumps and a bouquet of fresh light pink roses. I incorporated them into this shoot because I love how the red and pink looked together. Going back to the dress, aside from the fact that the fabric can get wrinkled easily, I have nothing to say against it. And oh, did I tell you it's only $19!

If you love this dress, you can check out Zaful on Facebook or Instagram to see more goodies!

Red Maxi

Red is one of my favorite colors to wear as of late (as evidenced by my post here, here and here). I'm not exactly sure why or if it has any link to my love for red lipsticks; however, I like the bold statement that the color evokes. It definitely calls attention to itself. It can turn heads without the flashing print - just bold outfits that make the color shine and stand out.

Maxi Dress: Sheinside / Sunnies: Sunnies by Studios / Clutch: Abreeza Mall / Flats: Mendrez

I finally arrived at an epiphany: it speaks a lot about my ideal style. Simple, subtle but slightly provocative. I purchased this dress from Sheinside and while it is not normally up my alley (hello deep neckline!), I went ahead and gave it a shot anyways! That high slit... I've been dreaming of wearing a dress with such attention-grabbing slit. I am glad I can finally channel my inner Angelina Jolie with this dress.

And while I was gushing about this dress, I was slightly let down by the short inner lining. But there is nothing that a trip to the tailor can't fix. And did I tell you this is up for grabs at less than $20? Yes - grab yours now! It's a surefire summer staple!

Do you like dresses with slits, too?

Simply Red

A red dress, like an LBD, is a wardrobe staple. I already have quite a few of them in my wardrobe but there is no such thing as too much when it comes to red dresses, you agree? This red shift dress from ThredUp is going to be an undeniable favorite. It is made with 100% polyester so it comes with a nice, comfortable fit. Even though the fabric is a bit heavy, it does not feel bulky when worn. In fact, it feels very light and soft.

I styled this red dress with a layered beaded necklace and my go-to floral flats. The dress already commands attention in itself so I did not want to over-do it with styling and/or accessorizing.

Have you tried shopping at ThredUP yet? If you have, feel free to leave a link to your post in the comments so I can check it out. xo

Fiery

When it comes to shopping and fashion, I never hold back. There might be certain instances in life when I hold back but it rarely applies in fashion. When I like love something, I go after it!

That is how I felt about this dress. When I first saw this online, it did not instantly win me over like most of the dresses that I do have in my closet. It's undeniable that the color drew me in. But I had been leaning towards more practical buys as of late - and that means investing on pieces that I can re-wear or re-mix with several other pieces. It also means investing in dresses that could be easily transitioned from day to night.

However, it seems as though I've completely neglected all these golden shopping rules I have set for myself with this purchase. This dress, albeit dramatic, is not the most practical buy. It is hot like hell in this part of the world and that means I would only probably be able to wear this one during the night or on colder days. Plus, it will probably require a bit more creative flair to mix and match with other pieces.

And yet, there is no single ounce of doubt in my body when I donned this dress. The fabric is cotton so it is ultra comfortable. The fabric also clings to the body without hugging it too much - it provides just the right amount of shape.
